Dobbs Ferry, NY- Senior Track & Field standout Shaneika Bowra was one of the Excellence in Community and Character award recipients and was named the State Farm Female Scholar-Athlete of the year, at the ECC awards dinner on May 13.
Bowra (St. Catherine Jamaica) transferred to UDC as a junior and has excelled both on and off the track since then. She was the 2018-2019 team captain and played a huge role in the success of the Track and Field Program this year. She was named ECC Indoor & Outdoor Track Athlete of the week for the 2018-2019 seasons. Bowra placed second in both the 60m and the 200m to help her team to a third place finish at the ECC Indoor Track & Field Championships. She also helped her team to a second place finish at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships, winning the 200m and the 4x100m, and placing third in the 100m.
Bowra’s accomplishments off the track are even more extensive. She is an accounting major and holds a 3.904 overall GPA. She was named the 2019 UDC recipient of the Newman Civic Fellowship award, which recognizes students who are change makers and problem solvers. Bowra is a membership chair for the National Association of Black Accountants, works with the DC tutoring and mentorship initiative and was the 2018-2019 Vice President of SAAC.
Bowra was also the 2019 co-recipient of the Reslyn Henley memorial award. This award is given to a student-athlete in their final year of college competition who has shown nobility, character and loyalty to team.

Her leadership, hard work and dedication has helped immensely not only with her individual performances and achievements, but with the improved performance of the team over this past Indoor and Outdoor seasons as well.
